Where PR is usually used to boost brand awareness, nowadays more and more companies use the number of backlinks generated as the most valuable target. No wonder because backlinks – links from an external website to yours – can increase the traffic to your website and build up a network around it which will result into a higher position on search engines. This is interesting for every business, but especially for e-commerce businesses where sales take place on the website. MCPR adapts to this trend. Last month we started a PR project for the fashion search engine Lyst. Our goal? Generating as many backlinks to their new just launched Dutch website, as possible.
What is Lyst? Lyst is a UK-based international fashion search engine that’s active in over 200 countries. By offering products of 830 webshops and 12.000 different brands and the use of advanced technology, Lyst-visitors always find the items they’re looking for, quick and easy. After the success of this international platform, the fashion search engine is now quickly expanding. In the last couple of years, Lyst already launched local platforms for Italy, Spain, Germany and France. Supported by a 60 million funding of The French LVMH Luxury Group, Lyst will enter Japan, Russia and the Netherlands this year as well. Driven by a global marketing strategy, MCPR is handling the Dutch introduction: generating articles with backlinks to the local website to increase the ranking on search engines.
Easier said than done. First of all, it’s difficult to get websites to link to another website as they want visitors to stay on their website, instead of leading them to external ones. Besides that, it takes a while before backlinks will boost the search engine rankings. You can’t see the results right away. Another aspect to keep in mind is the quality of the websites that link to your website. Not all websites have the same effect. As our gift to Lyst, this blog is an extra qualitative backlink 😉
